Fox 61 Morning News featured an interview with two pillars from the Connecticut drag community: Kenya Mone Heart, from the beautiful Diamond Dynasty, alongside Natalia Fierce, from the legendary Haus of Fierce, drag daughter of Robin Fierce from season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. In a time when it is so important to uplift drag across the country, the two influential Connecticut entertainers were asked to spotlight their inspirations, upcoming events and some need-to-know tips if you have plans on attending a drag show any time soon. Fox couldn’t have chosen anyone better, considering they have almost 10 years of combined experience between them both.

Kenya started doing drag about 4 years ago, and Natalia is approaching 5 years this September. Kenya chose her drag name because the name ‘Kenya’ is representative of her African culture, and her middle name ‘Mone’ is derived from the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars season 4, Monet X Change. Kenya’s last name ‘Heart’ comes from another contestant on the hit show RuPaul’s Drag Race, Mo Heart, who rose to fame on season 10.

Natalia chose her iconic name from her Fierce family background and Spanish roots. Her Fierce background of course being her last name, after her famed drag mother Robin Fierce. Natalia also took this time to explain that her drag is “full Beyonce” and if you have had the pleasure of watching her perform, you would know that is the absolute the truth, no lies detected. She is not exaggerating when she tells you that she is the “Beyonce of Connecticut” as Natalia embodies the singer’s one-of-a-kind style with creations she spends blood, sweat and coins making.

The Connecticut Queens were asked about what they would like people to know when they attend a drag show. Kenya makes no hesitation to state that tipping is so important. As said earlier, there is so much effort put into these performances and outfits, and they highly deserve every single dollar. Kenya also lovingly reminds us that it “takes a lot of money to look this cheap,” while the news broadcast displayed some of Natalia’s breathtaking pieces in action. Kenya shows us her extremely quick wit the entire interview with her hilarious innuendos, while simultaneously serving every single angle the camera could possibly catch.

Kenya and Natalia also took time to explain to viewers that if you come to a drag show, whether it be a Sunday morning brunch by Sky Casper Entertainment or a Saturday night at the Chez Est, you will be entertained to the fullest while feeling the love that these performances extend through the entire room. This is all happening while you are in a safe space to be yourself and have fun, and it truly couldn’t be done without the amazing artists we have in Connecticut who put their entire heart and soul into what they do.

Their presence on mainstream news is helping to change the narrative because drag queens have unfortunately had a negative stigma placed around their community. By Kenya and Natalia being on mainstream news now places real live drag queens into the living rooms of the average family home all around Connecticut and hopefully will help to paint a new picture portraying drag queens and rewriting the narrative surrounding drag culture.
