For sixteen seasons, Chez Legends, the long-running drag competition at Chez Est in Hartford, has played a central role in shaping Connecticut’s drag scene. Held twice a year, the 10-week showcase brings together performers of all identities and styles, offering an inclusive space for the state’s talent to grow and be seen. Each week, contestants compete to advance, with the week’s top performer earning a place in the season’s grand finale, where one is crowned the season winner. That journey continues as each pair of winners returns for the All Stars showdown, a high-stakes battle that determines who will claim the ultimate title of Mx. Chez Est.

Friday

This past Friday, April 17, marked the start of a standout weekend at Chez Est, where a Disney-themed celebration set the stage for the Chez Legends All Stars. Guests were welcomed by a red carpet entrance and photo opportunities that matched the night’s sense of occasion, as anticipation built inside the venue. The competition quickly heated up with performances from season 15 winner Angel Rivers and season 16 champion Angelina Fierce, each bringing their own edge to the stage. At the judges’ table, owner John Pepe was joined by Lady Tatiana, Mother of the House of Legends, and reigning Mx. The competition unfolded across three rounds designed to highlight range and creativity. First up was the Impersonation category  where each performer stepped into a well-known persona with a focus on detail and stage presence. The Disney round followed, pushing both queens to deliver theatrical, story-driven performances. The night culminated in Red Carpet Elegance, where the runway became a showcase of polished, high-fashion presentation that brought the crowd to its feet.

Angel Rivers set the stage on fire, opening in the Impersonation category with a take on Bad Bunny that recreated key moments from his recent Super Bowl halftime show while underscoring its deeper meaning. By drawing on his use of visibility and Latin pride, Angel tapped into that same energy that has made his work resonate across cultures, before shifting mid-performance into a reference to Bad Bunny’s 2020 drag appearance. In the Disney round, she moved into a more personal space, opening as a fairy-like pixie before transforming into Mickey Mouse attire in the iconic blue hat and red robe set to a medley of classic Disney song favorites. Childhood footage of Angel at Disney played at the start, grounding the performance in personal history and capturing a sense of wonder. She closed with Red Carpet Elegance in dramatic fashion, carried onto the stage inside a rolled red carpet in a striking all-red look, performing to “Diva” by Club 69 and Peter Rauhofer, fully embracing the song’s themes of fashion, fame, and unapologetic confidence (video below).

Angelina Fierce delivered a pop-driven Impersonation round centered on Britney Spears, weaving together some of her most recognizable cultural moments. Her performance moved through a medley of Britney’s hits, including a recreation of the chair choreography from “Stronger” and “I’m a Slave 4 U,” where Angelina appeared on stage with a live yellow snake draped over her shoulders. The number highlighted three distinct Britney looks, tracing different eras of the artist’s career and stage persona. In the Disney round, Angelina shifted into a tribute inspired by Disney’s Coco, recreating its themes of heritage and remembrance. She incorporated photographs of community members who have passed, mirroring the film’s focus on honoring ancestors and keeping their memory present through visual celebration. For Red Carpet Elegance, she closed the night with a lipsync to “La gata bajo la lluvia” by Rocío Dúrcal, performing in a silver, sparkling ensemble atop a platform of red flowers, capturing the song’s tone of heartbreak and resilience as she brought the competition to a close (video below).

Saturday

On Saturday night, April 18, Chez Est hosted the final night of the Chez Legends All Stars event, bringing the two-night celebration to a close. The evening combined tribute with recognition, beginning with the presentation of the William Musanti Humanity Award, which honored compassion and service within the community. A historic moment followed with a new All Star being inducted into the House of Legends, marking another chapter in the venue’s ongoing drag legacy. As the night built toward its finale, attention turned to the announcement of the All Stars winner and the crowning of Mx. Chez Est 2026, a title that reflects both performance excellence and the broader creativity and diversity of Connecticut’s drag scene.

This year’s awards ceremony highlighted community service and connection at its core, as The Imperial Sovereign Court of All Connecticut received the William Musanti Humanity Award. The honor recognized the organization’s ongoing work in advocacy, inclusion, and year-round efforts to support meaningful change across the state. Comprised of roughly 60 volunteers, the nonprofit operates entirely through community effort, raising funds for other Connecticut-based organizations through drag shows, brunches, bingos, cabarets, and virtual fitness events, among other initiatives. Founded as a royal society, the Court brings together members who join as Lords, Ladies, or Lieges depending on their gender identity, with opportunities to advance through its internal ranks while continuing its broader mission of fundraising and community support.

Following the award presentation, the stage at Chez Est shifted into a showcase of past and present talent, with a series of performances that highlighted the history of the competition. The evening featured appearances from Queen Mother Lady Tatiana and former All Stars winners, October May Lay (Mx. Chez Est 2019), Ray DeCorazón (2020), Natalia Fierce (2021), Rozz Aura (2023), Moxie Angel (2024), and the reigning Mx. Chez Est 2025, Harmony The Valkyrie. Each performer brought a distinct style that reflected the growth of the House of Legends over time. Harmony The Valkyrie’s return to the stage came as a final performance as reigning monarch, offering a farewell moment that brought the evening to a reflective and emotional close.

As anticipation built to a peak, the moment the weekend had been leading toward finally arrived with the crowning of Mx. Chez Est 2026 at Chez Est. On stage stood season 15 winner Angel Rivers and season 16 champion Angelina Fierce, both waiting under the spotlight as the final announcement drew near. The room fell into silence before erupting as the winner was revealed, with Angel Rivers ultimately taking the crown. Embraced in a moment of shared emotion on stage, she was named Mx. Chez Est 2026, closing the competition with a victory that secured her place in Connecticut drag history.

In a moment filled with emotion and significance, Harmony The Valkyrie, the reigning Mx. Chez Est 2025, stepped down from the crown, bringing her year-long reign to a close and making way for a new chapter at Chez Est. The crown was then passed to Angel Rivers, marking a victory that carried meaning beyond the title itself. Angel’s win stood as a milestone for the Gem Dynasty, the close-knit sisterhood she shares with Harmony The Valkyrie and Robin Fierce. As the crown changed hands between founding sisters, the gesture reflected more than tradition. It spoke to a shared history built on trust, support, and community. The moment underscored how Chez Est continues to be shaped by legacy and chosen family, where each reign builds on the last and strengthens the foundation left by those before.
