By Lucy Cigarettes –
NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT – This year’s spooky season extends into Saturday, November 1st, with Lucy’s Halloween Hangover at 33 Golden Street in New London, CT. Lucy Cigarettes will host a cast of musical artists and drag performers to celebrate all things ghoulish, dreadful, and monstrous, with plenty of humor and heart. Drag queens, kings, and things of all kinds, ranging from cuddly to creepy, silly, sexy, and scary, will take the stage alongside several local queer musicians, with an intermission costume contest rounding out the night.

Halloween Hangover features three sets of live music from Lys Guillorn, Antares, and Ken and the Plastics. Lys Guillorn is a genre-bending indie troubadour with a long history in the Connecticut music community and is one-third of The Void Kittens, both of whose music can be found on Bandcamp. Antares delivers self-produced, high-energy hyperpop from New Haven, with their recent release T Minus available on Spotify. Ken and the Plastics bring an unfiltered onslaught of loud and proud electronic music deeply entrenched in unapologetic homosexuality, with their 2024 self-titled album now streaming on all major platforms.

The evening’s drag showcase features a well-rounded cast, including the horrific talents of drag cryptid Mythos Viscera and spider ghoul Arachne, both of whose gothic and morbid styles are perfectly in keeping with the haunted holiday season. The self-proclaimed gender-fluid mess Toni Stardust brings a style informed by anime, cosplay, emo gleefulness, and anything-goes exuberance, all delivered with a lighthearted mall-gothic slant.

While “drag king” may be something of an unwelcome misnomer in light of the No Kings protests, the populist drag of non-monarchal “king” Poletariat is always a mix of anti-authoritarian fury, cartoonish theatrics, and over-the-top energy. Connecticut’s premier lesbo party girl, Saturnalia, will be delivering the goods in her inimitable style of busty, bawdy, sultry, sapphic charm. Lucid Dream is a ferocious and flamboyant embodiment of drag femininity whose recent performances have included the AFSPCT’s Drag Me To Life benefit and a myriad of Wacky Wednesdays at Trevi Lounge in Fairfield, CT.

Crayloca is a club-kid raver and rock ’n’ roll punk whose love of creating ornate, eye-catching costumes is matched by their silly, Pee-wee Herman meets Cyndi Lauper dynamic. Leotia Lubrica, a member of the performance group Cirque du Slay, is an experienced aerialist known for their sensuous straitjacket escapes and use of the lyra hoop, silks, and flying pole.

Sporting her iconic neon-pink and leopard-print mohawk, handmade eponymous denim vests, and ever-present rollerskates, Hostess Lucy Cigarettes is a whirlwind of whimsy and wild action. Roller-skating, poledancing, and singing a mix of original and classic punk, heavy metal, and rock tunes are hallmarks of her unique performance style. Her enthusiasm for neon, animal print, and studded garments is the perfect synthesis of punxploitation and ’80s streetwalker aesthetics. Preferring the title Ambisextrous Daredevil, Lucy consistently delivers heart, hedonism, and high-stakes antics wherever her skate wheels take her.

Costumes are strongly encouraged as there will be a costume contest during intermission with prizes for the winners. Whether you’re a demon or a diva, a beast or a beauty, a slutty something or a scary something else, all attendees are welcome to participate!
