HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT – For fourteen seasons, Chez Legends at Chez Est in Hartford has been the proving ground for Connecticut’s fiercest drag performers, but this year’s showdown was a spectacle like no other. The stakes had never been higher, with the largest prize in the competition’s history drawing seasoned performers and fresh faces alike. Hosted by the House of Lay Entertainment, the 10-week event transformed Thursday nights into a dazzling battleground. Each week, performers fought for the top spot, their eyes on the ultimate goal: a place in the grand finale. As the final night approached, the anticipation reached soaring heights. The weekly champions stood ready to clash, joined by a wildcard, all determined to be crowned the latest Chez Legend.

The energy was high as the season 14 of Chez Legends reached its climax, the crowd packed wall-to-wall in anticipation. For ten grueling weeks, Connecticut’s finest drag performers had dazzled, lip-synced, and sashayed their hearts out for a chance at the title. Off stage, the judging panel watched intently – Chez Est’s owner John Pepe, the reigning Mx. Chez Est 2024 Moxie Angel, and the mother of the House of Lay, Mia E. Z’Lay. The night was masterfully guided by the host, Chez Legends season 9 winner Kenya Mone Heart. Under the blazing spotlights, a new Legend was crowned, ready to etch their name in the legacy of Chez Est.

The season finale of Chez Legends delivered an unforgettable night of talent and creativity as weekly winners took the stage in a fierce battle for the crown. The audience was treated to show-stopping performances from a stellar lineup, including Rory Roux Lay and Enigma Jones, Iridessa Soul LaFlare, Frizzie Borden, Onixx Aura, and Rose Chanel D’Amante in Act I, followed by Chai, Carina Concealed Weapon, Angelina Fierce, Anitta Redbull, Harmony The Valkyrie, and Lexxi Pro in Act II. Adding to the excitement, the performance order was determined by a random draw conducted live on Facebook by Chez Est’s Social Media Manager, Nick Dionne, heightening anticipation.

Act I opened with a dazzling trip down the yellow brick road as Rory Roux Lay and Enigma Jones transported the audience to the Land of Oz in a stunning, theatrical spectacle. Iridessa Soul LaFlare followed, radiating superstar as she emerged as a shimmering golden goddess. Frizzie Borden brought the house down with a bizarrely brilliant act, love-bombed by a seaweed monster in a surreal homage to The Mighty Boosh and Noel Fielding. Onixx Aura delivered a RuPaul-inspired fantasy, seamlessly mashing up iconic Ru hits before ending her performance by singing live. Closing the first act, Rose Chanel D’Amante brought the heat with a fierce banjie hip-hop number that had the crowd on their feet.

Act II kicked off with Chai’s jaw-dropping blend of glam and apocalypse, serving realness with roaches and blood for an unforgettable post-apocalyptic fantasy. Anitta Redbull followed, declaring her “cow realness” with a hilarious and campy rap lip-sync, transitioning from brown cow couture to lace and leather. Lexxi Pro commanded the stage as a sultry dominatrix before shocking the audience with a full transformation into a pop star, strutting her own red carpet and solidifying her diva status. Each act brought something unique, ensuring the finale was a celebration of drag artistry in all its forms.

Harmony The Valkyrie claimed victory with a heart-wrenching and powerful performance that left the audience deeply moved, evoking tears of sorrow and cheers of inspiration. As the curtains rose, the stage was set with a somber, funeral-like atmosphere, where a choir filled the air with mournful harmonies. The audience watched in stunned silence as a wooden casket was revealed – its symbolism undeniable, representing the loss of trans women. Then, in a dramatic moment, Harmony emerged from the coffin, set to singer Michaela Jaé’s “Forever,” embodying strength and resilience.

Midway through the performance, a “I have something to say” video montage unfolded, featuring local trans women sharing their truth. As the reels concluded with her clip, Harmony spoke with raw emotion in the video: “I have something to say. Some of us are angry, some of us are scared, some of us are just trying to get by, but all of us just want to live our lives. It’s hard to do that in a world where trans women are painted to be something that we are not. My chosen family saved my life. I love my community. So if you take anything away from my performance tonight, it’s to love each other, protect one another and to listen to trans women because not only have trans women been the backbone of the community but trans women are probably some of the most resilient people we have in our community and yet we still get mistreated and overlooked.” The performance was more than just an act – it was a message of love, solidarity, and the urgent need for change.

After the emotional video montage faded, Harmony returned to the stage, her presence commanding the room with an anthem of strength and perseverance. Members of her drag family joined her, each holding protest signs written with terms of endearment for the trans community. As Michaela Jaé’s “Something To Say” blared through the speakers, the energy shifted from sorrow to empowerment. The song echoed through the venue, its message of resilience filling the space as Harmony and her chosen family marched in defiance, every step a testament to their fight for recognition and love. Harmony then returned to where it all began – the casket. She closed the performance by stepping inside, symbolizing the strength it took to rise from the darkness and reclaim her voice. The audience, moved and inspired, erupted into applause, knowing they had witnessed something unforgettable.

Harmony The Valkyrie is the first trans woman of color to win the title. Harmony’s path to the crown began in week 8, with an electrifying performance that left the crowd in awe. Set to a powerful Pussycat Dolls mega mashup, her act opened with an air of mystery as she was carried in on a covered palanquin, her silhouette teasing the audience from behind the veil. As the palanquin was set on the stage, Harmony emerged in full glory, a siren goddess come to life. The seamless blend of theatricality and fierce choreography had the crowd on their feet, cementing her status as the top contender of the week.

At the finale, the night’s finalists were decided by audience votes, cast via text message in a tense two-round process. From the initial round, the top five advanced, and after a second round of voting, the top three performers emerged: Harmony The Valkyrie, Angelina Fierce, and Carina Concealed Weapon. Angelina Fierce delivered a jaw-dropping act that left the crowd stunned. Draped in a nun’s habit with a glittering exposed heart, set to the scene of The Last Supper, she embodied “Passion of the Doll” realness, with a powerful Lady Gaga mega mashup. The performance took a dramatic turn as she stripped down to a simple loincloth, carrying a massive cross across the stage in a chilling parallel to the story of Christ. Her portrayal was a striking commentary on the vulnerability and resilience of the trans community, a call for protection and understanding. The audience watched in awe, their cheers cascading with the weight of her message.

Carina Concealed Weapon stormed the stage as a fierce clown soldier, blending the chaotic whimsy of the circus with the raw intensity of battle. Her performance was an electrifying clash of heavy metal and rap, each pulse of the music fueling the crowd’s adrenaline. Distorted carnival laughter wove through the pounding beats, transforming the stage into a surreal battlefield. Her exaggerated makeup and militaristic precision told a deeper story: that even in the face of fear, joy and whimsy can survive. This performance wasn’t just a spectacle; it was a response to her first Chez Legends number during week 6, which secured her spot in the season’s finale and confronted her experience with sexual assault – an experience that left her with intense feelings of shame, disgust, and guilt. During the finale, she reclaimed the stage as a space of resilience, proving that even in life’s darkest moments, there is still room to laugh, to play, and to find power in the unexpected.

This finale was a true celebration of drag artistry, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats until the very last performance. The announcement of the final three marked a historic moment, not only for Chez Legends but for the entire Connecticut drag scene. For the first time, the top three contenders were all proud trans women, in addition to each hailing from the illustrious Gem Dynasty. Originally formed as the Haus of Gems by local drag icons Harmony The Valkyrie, Angel Rivers, and Robin Fierce, the Gem Dynasty stood out for its unique structure – rejecting the traditional mother role in favor of equality, with each member embracing the role of sister. Now, this legacy shone brighter than ever. Harmony, a founding sister, stood alongside her drag daughter, Carina Concealed Weapon, and Angelina Fierce, the drag daughter of Robin Fierce. Together, they symbolized the strength and unity of the Gem Dynasty.

The competition at Chez Legends reached peak excitement all season long, with drag performers fiercely battling for the ultimate title and a shot at All Star glory. Weekly winners not only pocketed $100 but also secured their place in the season finale, where they competed for a grand prize worth $2,450, including cash and gift cards from local sponsors. But the journey doesn’t end there – the newly crowned season champion advances to the highly coveted Chez Legends All Star competition. Featuring champions from seasons 13 and 14, this elite showdown will boast an eye-popping prize package valued at $8,325, including paid bookings and the coveted crown, sash, and scepter. With the total package for Mx. Chez Est 2025 reaching $10,875, the stakes have never been higher, driving contestants to deliver show-stopping performances in their quest to become Connecticut’s next drag icon.

Following her win, Harmony took to social media and shared, “I am the first trans woman of color to win! And I’m not gonna let you forget it!” She continued with, “My number was dedicated to the trans women experience. I wanted people to get a glimpse of what it is like to walk in our shoes in a world where we are told we don’t belong.”

After the crowd eagerly awaited the winner’s announcement, the votes were in! Harmony The Valkyrie was declared the season 14 winner of Chez Legends!
