Three Connecticut drag queens who competed on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” had a “cackle around the cauldron” meeting up with a former winner of the show.
Loosey LaDuca, Amethyst and Robin Fierce, who all appeared on season 15 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” met up with Jinkx Monsoon in New Haven on Thursday, according to a post on Monsoon’s Instagram account. During the show, drag queens compete against each other in “feats of “fashion, acting, comedy and more,” according to MTV. Monsoon has also appeared on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” winning season five of the original show as well as season seven of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.”
“These lovely humans came out last night in New Haven, and we had a right proper cackle around the cauldron,” Monsoon wrote on the Instagram post.
Monsoon was making a stop in New Haven’s College Street Music Hall as part of their Everything at Stake Tour. During the comedy show, they performed music and told stories about their life, according to the event’s description on College Street Music Hall. The tour was inspired by an outfit they wore during “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” that made it appear like they were being burned at the stake, they told Entertainment Weekly in February. The show also aims to address discrimination that LGBTQ+ individuals face in the country.
“It was the [fan] reaction to the burning dress that motivated the motif for this tour,” Monsoon told Entertainment Weekly in February. “I’m going to find the parallels between the witch hunts that existed in the olden days, when women were persecuted for taking on the patriarchy, and the parallels happening right now with the queer, trans, and LGBTQIA+ community — the witch hunt we’re experiencing as we take on the patriarchy.”
The Connecticut drag queens have also been making appearances at other events during Pride Month, including Norwalk’s Pride in the Park. LaDuca told Hearst Connecticut Media in June that they regularly keep in touch with the other Connecticut drag queens. LaDuca also said that drag has a “huge, thriving community” in the Nutmeg State.
